Springtime Joys

Happy Spring, officially!

A few weeks ago we took the annual Whistler trip with Michael’s work. What an odd experience, to show up at the usually snowy wonderland and find a whole lotta springtime.

It was mostly sunny, balmy, and green. Michael and Rosalie were able to have some snowy skiing adventures further up the mountain,

but you could even tell from the base of the mountain that the snow experience was quite…limited. There were a few ribbons of white flowing down, allowing for some skiing, but one wrong turn was mud city.

Kind of looks like butter brickle ice cream up there, doesn't it?

Still, we were able to go ice skating at the outdoor rink in the village, as we did last year. That’s always a winner.

It was a lovely time anyway, obviously. Whistler Village is just happiness, condensed. I am so thankful to Michael’s work for orchestrating this trip for all of us. It’s an utter treat. We had mini-adventures as a family and got to spend time with Micheal's coworkers, too.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Rosalie’s now lost her second upper front tooth. Wow. Get ready for a whole different smile, Rosalie! All this happened on a rainy St. Patrick’s Day. She—and her smile—were considerable sources of sunshine, though.

I think this was the day we set up the Sportbrella in the front yard, so she could have a rain fort.

We recently pulled out the cookbook that Grandmama gave Ro for Christmas, after I bought her some kid-safe knives to work with. So much fun! So much fruit. Rosalie menu-planned and cooked a complete dinner and dessert one night (with Mommy’s help),

and we had enough leftover fruit to do another dessert the next night.

So fun. Hopefully we’ll make time to do this more often. Rosalie kept announcing, “This is so much fun!” when she used her special knives. It seems empowering.

At Carkeek Park there’s a magical tree tucked in on a trail near the playground. It’s called a Wishing Tree, with red ribbons and sharpies provided so that people can write a wish on a ribbon and attach it

to the tree’s limbs. You can be sure that we made wishes on that tree. So cool.

Little details like this make me love our city. We have a wishing tree, no big deal.

Another great detail about Seattle is our cherry blossoms in the springtime.
Berry Patch had a reunion
"Cherry Blossom Walk" this morning. So nice to see friends and get snowed on with blossoms!

Hope you're enjoying your spring, too!
