This Just In: Spring Really Here

Rosalie and I have been spending copious amounts of time in the garden. Michael was impressed to hear Rosalie narrating our progress in the backyard as we weeded, planted, and cleaned our little garden into a magical place. She talked nonstop, describing what we were doing. "Moving dirt. Pull up the plants. Uh, oh, worm! Give it dirt. Keep it nice and safe." She has also been instructing me about how it all works. "Plants need water," she explained the other day. "And trees, people...need water."
That same day we were looking around at what was blooming, and we noticed a nice hosta that was coming up. "Look, Rosalie! This plant's called a hosta."

"Pasta!" she agreed enthusiastically.

"No, Hosta." I said, pointing to my mouth. "Ha-ha-ha HOSTA."

"Ha-ha-ha PASTA," she grinned. I think she was messing with me.

Happy Belated Easter

Doesn't this look kind of like an album cover? These grumpy bunnies actually had a great time on Easter Sunday having an egg hunt! We used plastic eggs for the hunt, thankfully. There will be new eggs turning up every time I go out to garden this summer, I suspect.

I had a real "kids are people, too" moment during the egg hunt. Rosalie, Owain, and Tyler each had their idiosyncracies about what they wished to hunt, gather, and keep. Tyler, who is really, really into the color blue (so much so that I got him a blue basket), only wanted blue eggs with the occasional accent color. Exhibit A:

Rosalie, on the other hand, only wanted the small eggs (I had bought them in three sizes). When she realized how important this was to her, she started unloading the ones she didn't want onto the lawn, leaving a trail of medium and large eggs behind her as she went. Once her basket theme was established, she wasted no time with those bigger eggs. She'd pick one up, examine it, and drop it back down on the ground if it wasn't the correct size. Here's one that probably passed inspection:

I don't mean to tattle, but she probably took this one from Tyler's basket. She definitely conducted part of her search in her friend's baskets. They didn't seem to notice.

Especially Owain! I believe he had more than one basket going. With the selection process going on with Rosalie and Tyler, Owain got the lion's share of eggs, by far. His basket overfloweth. But then his basket dumpeth. Yep, he didn't care about keeping the things--it was way more fun to dump the eggs everywhere than to hold on to them. That's great, actually! More for next year's hunt.
