First Flight

Rosalie took her first plane ride this week. In this picture, she's reviewing the safety guidelines.

One notable moment from her maiden voyage: we did our small-child pre-board so Michael could install the carseat into the airplane seat. Right after we boarded, a fellow dad from first class came over and asked if we needed some help, and showed Michael some tricks for getting it to work. We were so grateful for the help. The dad looked familiar to me, but I didn't think about it because I was so flustered about getting things done before others boarded. After we were all settled, Michael commented, "That was Kevin Nealon." Oh yeah! That's where I "knew" him from---Saturday Night Live (Weekend Update, "Hans and Franz", etc.).

So, this star-studded airplane was headed for L.A.-- We were flying south so that Michael could meet with some co-workers at Thought Convergence and I could visit Stacey, who just moved down there. On Monday, Stacey, Rosalie and I went to Sushi Roku over in West Hollywood, and after R's nap we visited a small park in the Santa Monica area. It was a day of drives. People in L.A., it turns out, will say, "It's right over there!" and that means it's a 45-minute drive. Just a different landscape than our condensed little Seattle. I was surprised at how pretty L.A. was after all the smog-filled stories I've heard, although Stacey pointed out that we were staying in a nice part of the city. Good point. Anyway, Rosalie charmed everyone she saw and handled her adventure with amazing aplomb. We are so proud. And glad to be home.

Outdoor Camp

Rosalie and her friend (along with us moms) have been taking an outdoor education camp at Discovery Park. In this pic, they had just finished "gathering specimens" from the pond with little nets and were heading back to join the others. They love nature. Especially the muddy parts. Giant sticks are good, too. Each camp session includes a corresponding art project, which means that the moms do the project while the kids play with the crayons. The Big Development Moment for Rosalie right now is that she no longer eats the crayons!
